Vaccinations

We are headed off Friday to get shots for trip. I'm sure the doctor will tell us exactly what ones to get, but the link at INDIA SHOTS. Ugh

We (Sue, Hayley and I) went to Travellers Doctor and got "immunized" for our trip. Sue only needed a booster, but Hayley got the full set of shots including Typhoid, Hepitatis A, TDep, Polio, Influenza and Hepetitas B. (I didn't need the Polio shot). We decided to defer purchase of Malaria pills, but maybe leaning back towards them. They run about $6 a pill and we would need about 15 each. Malaria is very low risk in India, but exposure to mosquitos after dark increases risk. Doctor also warned us about Rabies in India. Not a huge worry, but possible. Apparently 1 person every 30minutes dies from Rabies in India. Here is a picture of Hayley getting shots.

I went to see my GP today and started my shots. I got my Hepatitis A and DPT (Diptheria, Tetanus and something else). They had to order the Typhoid and Polio but should have them in hand in a day or so. Also got a script for Doxycycline 100 mg, Qty of 30, for $3 and a script for Ciprofloxacin HCL 500 mg, antibiotic for diarrhea. The pharmacy did not have the altitude sickness med on hand so that has been ordered and will be here tomorrow. Dr. Brewer also recommended that we have a generous supply of Pepto, Immodium, Sunscreen and Insect Repellent. He said it was not the time to go "green" and get the type with Deet. So far I feel like I need another suitcase just to carry all of my "what if" medicines and stuff. Jeez. Thanks for the heads up on immunizations. I would not have even thought of it.

I received my typhoid vaccination today and picked up my altitude sickness meds at the drugstore. I think I have to go back and get another round for the Hep A, but am not sure. I'll have to check on that.
